Silk Road Houston: Dim Sum That Had Me Ordering Seconds

By · My firsthand restaurant visit

I love dim sum, but I came to Silk Road with cautious expectations. It was inside a hotel, and the prices were higher than I was used to paying. I wanted to know whether the food would be worth it.

It was. We enjoyed the first dishes so much that we ordered more—and then ordered some of our favorites again!

From my video published February 3, 2026.

What I ordered

Har gow

The wrapper was so thin and translucent that it was almost barely there. I called these the best har gow I’d ever had. The shrimp tasted great, and the dumplings were executed beautifully. We ordered another round before we finished the meal.

Siu mai and pork soup dumplings

The shrimp-and-pork siu mai were another repeat order. The second batch arrived piping hot, and eating them right away made them even better than the first round, which had waited while I filmed.

We also had pork soup dumplings. The green onion and ginger had such a nice aroma, and the big spoon was useful for catching the soup inside.

Rice noodle rolls with crispy shrimp

These were my favorite thing here. The shrimp tasted good, and the sauce went so well with the roll. We had to order another serving—it would have felt like a crime not to, lol!

Chicken feet

The chicken feet came with garlic and black bean sauce. They were super gelatinous and so good. I was very happy we included them in the order.

Cordyceps dumplings

These were recommended to us, and I loved how they looked like little money bags. The filling included king oyster mushrooms and spinach. They were delicious, and I was excited to recommend them to the vegetable lovers watching.

Housemade noodles with beef

I was especially interested in the noodles because they were made in-house. They had the al dente chew and almost mochi-like texture I love.

I’d been a little hesitant about the beef, worried it might be dry or rubbery, but it was soft with a pleasant little bite from the tendons. It worked really well with the noodles.

A sweet bao to finish

By the time the final order arrived, I was so full that we shared one bao and took the other home. The filling was rich and runny, and it reminded me of the filling in an egg tart. It was a good finish to a very full meal.

How much was it?

We paid around $200 for our dishes, two drinks and tip, including the extra orders we added during the meal. Here’s an idea of the individual prices from Silk Road’s current menu:

  • Har gow (4 pieces): $12
  • Siu mai (4 pieces): $10
  • Pork soup dumplings / xiao long bao (5 pieces): $15
  • Crispy shrimp rice noodle rolls: $13
  • Chicken feet / Phoenix Claws: $9
  • Cordyceps dumplings (3 pieces): $12
  • Housemade stir-fried noodles with beef: $22
  • Lava bao: $10

Menu prices checked September 22, 2026; these are current listed prices, not an itemized receipt from my visit. View Silk Road’s menu.

What would I get again?

The crispy shrimp rice noodle rolls, har gow and siu mai would be at the top of my list—we already ordered all three again during this visit! I was impressed with how well the dumplings were cooked and put together.

The price was the downside for me, but the food made this a meal I’d happily repeat.
