Tokyo Japan Sushi Buffet Houston Review: $29.99 Seafood, Sashimi & Crab Legs
I went to Tokyo Japan Sushi Buffet for snow crab legs, oysters and salmon sashimi, and I kept finding reasons for another round. Not every dish was a winner, but I thought the seafood variety made this meal a good deal.
What I Ordered
Salmon Sashimi and Sushi
The salmon was buttery and creamy, without a fishy taste. I went back for more several times. I liked the rice on the salmon sushi, too—it was better than I expected from a buffet.
Snow Crab Legs
The crab legs were a little watery in the earlier batches, but I appreciated that they were not overly salty. The body meat was softer than I prefer. A later batch had a firmer texture that I liked more, so there was some variation throughout the meal.
Oysters and Grilled Shrimp
The oysters were plump and juicy. I enjoyed the first one plain and later added cocktail sauce and lemon. The large grilled shrimp also tasted good to me, with a nicely seasoned outside.
Crawfish and Clams
The crawfish had a peppery flavor and was better than I expected for frozen crawfish. It satisfied my craving enough that I kept returning for more. The clams were clean, without the sandy texture I sometimes dislike, and I enjoyed their sweet sauce.
Frog Legs, Squid and Green Beans
The fried frog legs surprised me with moist meat and a crisp, lightly salty coating. The grilled squid needed sauce for flavor, and the garlic green beans still had a nice crunch. The salt-and-pepper crab was too mushy for me, and the takoyaki had more soft dough than I wanted.
Chocolate Cake and Fruit
The cake grew on me as I ate it: moist, with a coffee flavor and just enough sweetness. The honeydew was especially sweet, even after the cake.
How Much Was It?
The buffet was $29.99 per person in my January 2024 video. Google says this buffet has permanently closed, but I don’t know when that took effect. Check before going.
What Would I Order Again?
The salmon sashimi, oysters, crawfish and fried frog legs would be on my list again, along with some crab legs. I also wanted to try the noodle station on a future visit because I did not get to it this time.
