My Popeyes Review: Spicy Fried Chicken & Mango Lemonade

By · My firsthand restaurant visit

When I’m craving fried chicken, Popeyes is one of the first places I think of. I brought this meal home and dug into spicy dark-meat chicken, fries, a biscuit and mango lemonade. Sometimes that familiar comfort-food meal is exactly what I want.

What I ordered

Spicy thigh and leg

The thigh is my favorite piece of chicken, with the leg right behind it. This thigh was smaller than I expected, but the coating had that crackly crunch I love.

The batter had a little spice and just enough saltiness, while the chicken inside was juicy and moist. I dipped mine in ketchup and had hot sauce nearby. I ate the first piece so quickly that I wished I had more.

Fries and peppers

The fries had held up reasonably well for takeout. Some of the outside was still crisp when I ate them at home. I also had peppers, which were crunchy and spicy.

Biscuit with honey

The biscuit was a little dry inside for me. The honey was what made it work—I liked that sweet finish after the chicken.

Mango lemonade

I liked the sweet-and-sour flavor of the mango lemonade. The ice had melted by the time I drank it, so I thought it would be even better colder with more ice.

How much was it?

What would I order again?

Spicy dark-meat chicken, especially the thigh. That crunchy coating and juicy inside are what bring me back. I’d get the mango lemonade again if it’s available, with plenty of ice.
