Vinh Hoa Houston Review: Lobster, Soft-Shell Crab & Juicy Quail

By · My firsthand restaurant visit

Thomas had been on a lobster kick, so we tried Vinh Hoa after a recommendation from his coworkers. This meal came during a rough week without electricity after the Houston storm, and I was glad we made it out. That lobster had me thinking I had been eating it wrong my entire life!

What I Ordered

Lobster

The lobster was cooked beautifully. It was moist and buttery soft, with none of the toughness you can get when lobster is overcooked. I loved the black pepper on top, and I could taste fish sauce in the sauce. To me, it tasted like Vietnamese-style lobster. Delicious.

Salt-and-Pepper Soft-Shell Crab

The soft-shell crab had a very light coating. It also had a noticeable ocean flavor, so keep that in mind if you prefer milder seafood.

Quail with Lemongrass

This surprised me. I am used to quail having great seasoning but drier meat. Here, the inside was actually juicy and so soft, with lots of flavor. I especially liked the leg with the salt, pepper and lime dipping sauce.

How Much Was It?

  • Salt & pepper soft-shell crab (2): $21.95
  • Quail roasted with chili & lemongrass: $17.95
  • Lobster dishes: $48 on the current menu.

Current menu prices checked September 23, 2026, rather than prices from my original visit. The menu lists four lobster preparations at $48 each. View Vinh Hoa’s menu.

What Would I Order Again?

The lobster and quail would be my first picks. The lobster was so tender, and that juicy quail really stood out from others I have tried.
