Hibachi Grill & Buffet Houston: Fried Chicken, Lo Mein & My Weekend Visit

By · My firsthand restaurant visit

Hibachi Grill & Buffet is one of the Houston buffets I kept going back to. I like having so many different things to try, and this visit had some good surprises. Not every dish was a favorite, but the fried chicken, noodles and a few other bites made it a satisfying meal.

What I ate

Lo mein, beef and chicken

The lo mein was a little greasy but seasoned just right for me. The beef was much more tender than I expected. I also liked the spicy chicken, which had a little sweetness and heat.

The General Tso’s chicken had good flavor, but the piece I picked was mostly batter. The fried chicken I got later was excellent—it reminded me why I’d liked it on past visits.

Sushi and salmon

The California roll was good for a buffet. The rice wasn’t too mushy or too vinegary, which matters a lot to me. I added so much lemon to the salmon that I changed the flavor too much to give it a fair comparison on its own.

Squid and dim sum

The salt-and-pepper squid had a better texture inside than I expected, although the coating didn’t seem especially fresh and crisp. I also tried chicken feet and sticky rice with pork. The chicken feet had really good flavor. The sticky rice was a little too sticky for my preference, but the pork was very soft.

Crawfish and soups

The crawfish tasted like frozen crawfish, and the seasoning was too salty for me. It wasn’t my favorite, so I’d save room for other things next time.

The hot-and-sour soup was very sour. Its flavor lingered so much that I had trouble judging the egg-drop soup afterward.

How much was it?

  • Weekend buffet price featured in my July 2024 video: $20.99 per person

I visited the weekend before July Fourth and wasn’t sure whether that price reflected a holiday rate or a general increase. Check the current rate for your visit rather than assuming the same price applies every weekend.

What would I order again?

The fried chicken, lo mein, tender beef and California roll would be good places for me to start. I’d have the chicken feet again, too. At the time, I put this among my three favorite Houston buffets out of the ones I’d tried.
