Red Claws Houston: My First All-You-Can-Eat Viet-Cajun Seafood Visit

By · My firsthand restaurant visit

An all-you-can-eat Viet-Cajun seafood restaurant sounded exciting, so I visited Red Claws to try it. There was more than seafood on the menu, including gumbo and fried chicken. I found some good bites, but the overall flavor didn’t quite replace my favorite crawfish spots.

From my Saturday visit video published May 2, 2025.

What I ordered

Crawfish and clams in RC Kick

I started with the Cajun, garlic and lemon-pepper mixture at medium heat. It was already spicy! I described the crawfish as live rather than frozen, and the meat came out easily. The seasoning was flavorful but a little too salty to keep licking the shells.

The clams were thoroughly coated in garlic-butter sauce, and I liked their texture.

Snow crab

A half-pound portion was included in the AYCE offering, so I tried it. The leg I ate had a pleasant, bouncy texture and tasted better than I expected.

Gumbo and a crunch wing

The gumbo had shrimp, sausage and okra. I liked that the okra wasn’t overcooked, but wanted more flavor from the broth.

The crunch wing was enormous and piping hot. The inside was juicy, and the outside was very crunchy and spicy. I thought the coating felt a little over-fried, though the chicken was still enjoyable.

Garlic-butter crawfish and octopus

For my next round, I switched to garlic butter to see if it would be less salty. I preferred it to the RC Kick. I chose spicy that time, but next time I’d choose medium so the chili powder wouldn’t cover up the garlic-butter flavor. I liked the octopus texture too.

How much was it?

  • My Saturday AYCE price: $46.95 before tax and tip.
  • One half-pound portion of snow crab was included.
  • Additional snow-crab clusters were listed at $15 each.

These were the terms during my visit. Snow crab was limited, even though the meal was AYCE. Confirm current prices, inclusions and ordering rules before visiting.

What would I choose again?

If I repeated this meal, I’d pick garlic butter at medium heat. Overall, it wasn’t bad for AYCE, but I said I would rather pay more at one of my favorite crawfish restaurants. The flavor here didn’t quite hit the spot for me.
