Ocean Crawfish: Snails, Chicken Feet & Flavors That Took Me Back to Vietnam

By · My firsthand restaurant visit

Ocean Crawfish is one of my favorite restaurants. The snails, seafood, herbs and sauces remind me of Vietnamese street food, and I keep coming back for the same dishes because I love them so much.

For this meal, Thomas and I had grilled finger snails, sweet snails with garlic, chicken feet with salt and chili, house special fried rice and two pounds of crawfish. There was a lot to be excited about!

From my video published October 30, 2023.

What I ordered

Chicken feet with salt and chili

The chicken feet were fried beautifully, with a salty, crunchy outside and all that chili, garlic and onion on top. There isn’t much meat, so they take a little work to eat, but they were worth it to me.

The combination of seasoning and texture was what made them special. I kept coming back to them throughout the meal.

House special fried rice

This was simple, delicious fried rice with the texture just right. It wasn’t soggy or dry. The fish eggs added little pops that made it even more fun to eat. I was so excited for this rice that I joked I was about to start shaking!

Grilled finger snails with green onion butter

The finger snails had a nice chew, with green onions, a little sriracha and crispy toppings. All the flavors together reminded me of being back in Vietnam. It was one of those bites that takes you somewhere.

Sweet snails with garlic

Garlic and butter are already a great start, and the topping on these snails were so good I wanted every bit of it. The snails were chewy without tasting fishy to me. I loved the rich, garlicky flavor.

House special spicy crawfish

We ordered two pounds. The sauce had plenty of garlic, a little sweetness and a citrusy tang that I really liked. The crawfish had a bouncy texture, and I was happy with them even though it wasn’t peak crawfish season.

I also loved the sweet, tangy dipping sauce. I used to think I could only get it here, then found out it was sold at Asian markets too!

How much was it?

What would I get again?

The chicken feet, snails and house special fried rice are dishes I keep coming back for. This is a restaurant where I tend to order my favorites again and again, even with so many other choices on the menu.

If chicken feet or snails aren’t your thing, the fried rice is a good place to start. I personally prefer the Wilcrest location because I’ve found it more consistent.
