Shabu Zone Houston Review: $21.99 Lunch & My Favorite Beef Belly
Shabu Zone is one of my favorite places to eat hot pot in Houston. I came for lunch, ready for a pot of broth, vegetables, noodles and plenty of my favorite meat: the number 11 Wagyu beef belly.
What I Ordered
Wagyu Beef Belly and Pork Belly
I ordered the number 11 Wagyu beef belly and the number 8 pork belly. The beef belly is the one I always come back to. I love fatty meat, and these thin slices were so soft and tender after cooking in the broth. I kept ordering more of the same because I enjoyed it so much.
Tonkotsu Broth and Sauces
The broth tasted fairly plain to me on its own, but I liked being able to adjust it. I added spicy ponzu and a tangy, fiery sauce until it had the sour, citrusy flavor I wanted. By the time the meat and vegetables cooked in it, it was full of flavor.
Vegetables, Mushrooms and Udon
I filled a plate with mushrooms, spinach, bok choy and cabbage. I especially love wood ear mushrooms. Udon is another must for me here, and the cabbage tasted so good after soaking up the broth.
Fish, Shrimp and Clams
I also picked up fish, shrimp and clams for the pot. The shrimp tasted fresh to me, and I liked how everything took on the flavors of the broth I had made.
How Much Was It?
The all-you-can-eat lunch was $21.99 per person in my February 2024 video. The lunch selection included my favorite beef belly, which made lunch a good fit for me. Confirm current pricing and which meats are included before visiting.
What Would I Order Again?
Number 11 Wagyu beef belly, udon and plenty of mushrooms and vegetables. I love being able to make the broth taste exactly how I want it. This is a place I was already returning to, and that beef belly is a big reason why.
