Ichijiku Sushi Houston: My $65 All-You-Can-Eat Omakase Experience
I went to Ichijiku thinking about sushi and happy hour, then discovered an all-you-can-eat omakase option. I felt like I’d hit the food lottery! This was a higher-priced AYCE meal, but the fish, rice and balance of each piece made it stand out to me.
From my video published November 24, 2025.
How the meal worked
Our server explained a $65 per-person menu with set opening courses followed by additional ordering from an AYCE selection and dessert. Both of us had to choose it, with a 100-minute limit and no leftovers. The opening courses were filling, so come hungry if you want to make the most of the extra sushi.
What I tried
Soup, tempura and yellowtail
We started with miso soup and small appetizers. Miso isn’t usually my favorite, but the tempura was a highlight: hot inside, with light, crisp batter. The yellowtail appetizer had a sauce I loved.
Nigiri and California roll
The fish-to-rice ratio was just right. The rice tasted good and wasn’t mushy, and the pieces weren’t weighed down with too much of it. The tuna surprised me by beating the salmon, even though I’m not usually a big tuna person.
The black cod was buttery and silky. I don’t normally reach for cooked shrimp sushi, but I liked the mayonnaise with this piece. The California roll was good too.
Unagi
The eel was one of my favorite pieces of the whole meal. It arrived warm with just the right amount of sauce, and I ordered more. Cold unagi can disappoint me; this was the opposite.
Green tea ice cream dessert
The dessert paired green tea ice cream with chewy little cubes and whipped cream. Mixing everything together gave me the cold, creamy and chewy combination I loved. It was such a good finish that my sweet tooth wanted another portion.
How much was it?
AYCE omakase: $65 per person during our visit. I thought the quality felt closer to à la carte sushi than a typical AYCE meal. The extra-order menu was smaller than at some buffets, but the quality made it worthwhile for me.
After my visit, I added a note to the video that reservations were required for this option. Call ahead to confirm current availability, pricing, reservation requirements and dining rules.
What would I order again?
The unagi and tuna would be high on my list, along with that dessert. I would definitely return when I’m nearby and craving sushi.
