The Breakfast Klub Houston: Chicken & Waffles, Catfish and Creamy Grits

By · My firsthand restaurant visit

I’ve lived in Houston my whole life, but this was my first visit to The Breakfast Klub. I went on a cold morning ready for a good breakfast, and I definitely ordered enough food. The staff were so friendly, and the meal left me full, satisfied and ready for a nap.

What I ordered

Chicken and waffles

My plate came with six pieces of chicken and a waffle. The chicken came out hot, crunchy and well seasoned, with a juicy inside. Those were big pieces, too. This was a lot of food for one person.

The waffle had a crisp outside and a soft center. I’d call it a solid waffle rather than something unusual, and I liked it even more once I added syrup. The powdered sugar and syrup gave it that sweetness I wanted alongside the chicken.

A side of catfish

The staff recommended the catfish, so of course I had to try it. It was flaky and delicious, with a light batter that didn’t feel too heavy. I added hot sauce for a little acidity and heat, and kept going back for another bite.

Grits

I don’t eat grits very often, but these were buttery, delicate and creamy. They came with butter on top, and I really liked them with the catfish.

How much was it?

Chicken & waffles: $18.25

My total was $42.51 before tip for chicken and waffles, a side of catfish, grits and an orange juice. check The Breakfast Klub’s menu for current pricing.

What would I order again?

The chicken, catfish and grits would bring me back. I enjoyed the waffle, too, especially with syrup. I’d just plan my order better: I stopped after about half a waffle, three chicken pieces, half the catfish and a few bites of grits, then packed the rest to go.
