Best of Filipiniana Houston Review: A $16.99 Weekend Filipino Buffet

By · My firsthand restaurant visit

I came back to Best of Filipiniana after a weekday visit because the owner told me weekends had more choices for just $2 more. The food brought me back, but so did the hospitality. This family was so kind and welcoming that I really wanted to support them again.

What I Ordered

Sour Soup and Ginger Chicken Soup

The sour soup was one of my favorite things here. That broth was tangy, zesty and full of sharp flavor—I loved it. The ginger chicken soup was much gentler, with a smooth broth and a warm, aromatic ginger flavor.

Pork Belly

The pork belly was not dried out at all. It was salty, rich and oily, but I really enjoyed it. This was one of the bites I was happy I put on my plate.

Fried Chicken and Chicken Curry

The fried chicken still had a crispy coating, although the meat was uneven: some bites were juicy, and others were drier and tougher. I liked being able to take a small piece and leave room to try more dishes. The chicken curry pulled apart easily and would have gone so nicely with rice.

Pancit and Lumpia

I went back for pancit on my second round. I especially love cabbage with noodles. The chicken piece I tried was on the tougher side. The lumpia had a light, crunchy outside, but the filling was a little mushy for me.

Sweet Rice Balls

I finished with sweet glutinous rice balls. They were sticky, doughy and chewy—a completely different texture from the savory dishes.

How Much Was It?

The weekend buffet was $16.99 per person in my May 2024 video. That was $2 more than the weekday buffet, with a bigger selection during my visit. Check the restaurant for current prices and buffet availability.

What Would I Order Again?

I would head back to that tangy soup and the pork belly. I was impressed with how flavorful much of the food was, and I preferred this weekend visit to my earlier weekday meal. The warmth of the family running the restaurant was a big part of the experience, too.
