JLB Eatery Houston: One of the Best Burgers I’ve Tried

By · My firsthand restaurant visit

I went to JLB Eatery hungry, and I’m glad I did. This cheeseburger was bigger than my hand! But it wasn’t just the size that impressed me. That soft, fresh bun made this one of the best burgers I’d tried in Houston.

What I ordered

Cheeseburger combo

I ordered the cheeseburger combo with fries and a drink and ate inside. The bun was so soft and flaky that it almost reminded me of a soft croissant. JLB makes its buns fresh daily, and that really stood out to me. The beef tasted fresh, too. Put it all together, and I was taking bite after bite even though this was a seriously big burger.

At the time, I’d tried about five or six burger restaurants in Houston, and I put JLB right at the top of that group. I still had a few bites left when I finally had to stop.

Fries and house-made ranch

The fries were a bigger cut and fried just right. I loved them. The staff mentioned that the condiments were house-made, so I also tried the ranch. I’m not usually a big ranch person, but this one had a subtle flavor instead of being too acidic or overpowering.

A fried Oreo to finish

The cashier brought me a fried Oreo near the end of my meal. That was a sweet gesture during my visit, not something I’m counting as part of the standard combo. It was hot, with a light batter and powdered sugar on top. The warm Oreo inside almost tasted like an Oreo brownie. I didn’t expect to enjoy it, but I enjoyed it LOL.

How much was it?

  • Cheeseburger combo with fries and a drink: $14.45

This is the Royal Oaks location’s published online pickup price, checked September 23, 2026. It gives you a current price guide; my original receipt was not available. View the Royal Oaks menu.

What would I order again?

The cheeseburger combo, absolutely. The fresh bun was the biggest difference-maker for me, and I loved the fries, too. I’d happily have another fried Oreo—assuming I saved room after that burger.
