Roberto’s Cocina Review: Beef Fajitas & Habanero Salsa Worth Coming Back For

By · My firsthand restaurant visit

I went back to Roberto’s Cocina for a Friday dinner after not visiting for a couple of years. The thing I remembered was the hot sauce—and yes, it was still FIRE. Those chips and salsas practically became a meal of their own.

What I ordered

Chips and three salsas

The chips came out warm and tasted fresh. We had three different sauces, with bottles on the table so we could refill our own bowls. I liked all three, but the habanero was my favorite. It had so much flavor, and the heat definitely caught up with me!

The green sauce was creamy and flavorful without the same spicy kick. Mixing it with the habanero was really good, too. I kept saying I could just sit there eating chips and salsa—and I pretty much proved it.

Beef fajitas for one

I ordered beef fajitas with flour tortillas and a grilled jalapeño. I built mine with the beef, grilled onions, jalapeño, rice and pico, then added salsa. The tortillas looked and felt homemade to me.

I started with the habanero, but after trying the red sauce, I actually thought that one went better with the fajitas. Between the salsa and the grilled jalapeño, the heat really added up. I was already getting full after my first fajita, so the rest was coming home with me.

What else was on our table

Thomas ordered enchiladas. I also tried his drink, which had Tajín and chamoy on the rim, and thought it was really good. The chips and salsa were still what I kept reaching for throughout dinner.

How much was it?

What would I order again?

The chips and habanero salsa, absolutely. I enjoyed the food, but that salsa was the standout for me. It was spicy enough to have my lips on fire, and I still wanted another bite. For the fajitas, I’d reach for the red sauce again.
