Dokdo Houston Review: Octopus, Seafood Pancake & Spicy Korean Comfort Food

By · My firsthand restaurant visit

We went to Dokdo for an octopus dish that was still moving when it reached the table. It was a memorable start to a meal that also included a seafood pancake, a big pot of noodles and spicy stir-fried octopus. We left full and took leftovers home.

What I Ordered

Raw Octopus

The octopus pieces had a firm, crunchy texture that I really enjoyed. The flavor itself was mild, so most of the seasoning came from the sesame oil and salt served alongside it. I used too much dip on my first bite; a little went a long way for my taste.

Seafood Pancake

I loved the combination of the crisp outside and soft middle. The dipping sauce added a citrusy note, and the whole thing felt lighter than I expected. This was delicious.

Spicy Noodle Pot

The big pot had a rich-looking broth with spice and acidity from kimchi. I especially liked eating it with rice, which soaked up the broth, and the rice cakes were soft, chewy and bouncy. There was more than we could finish.

Stir-Fried Octopus with Vegetables

I loved the chewy octopus and the crunch from the vegetables. This dish had a real kick, which worked for me because I enjoy spicy food. The portion of octopus was generous, too.

How Much Was It?

Side dishes came with our meal during this visit. Check the current menu for entrée and seafood prices.

What Would I Order Again?

The seafood pancake and octopus dishes would be on my list again. The mix of textures and spicy flavors made this a satisfying meal. I had also enjoyed lobster sashimi on an earlier visit, although it was unavailable on this night.
