Siu Lap City Houston: Crispy Pork Belly That Stole the Show

By · My firsthand restaurant visit

Siu Lap City was worth coming back to. I’d tried filming an earlier visit, but a car problem cut that day short. The food was good enough that I returned, and the pork belly reminded me exactly why I wanted to share this spot.

What I ordered

Large lunch plate

I chose the large lunch plate with two meats: pork belly and roast duck. It came with lo mein and bok choy. There was plenty of food, but I also added chicken wings because I couldn’t resist trying them.

Crispy pork belly

This was my favorite by far. The skin was crisp, and underneath it was rich, fatty pork that almost reminded me of a block of butter. I kept going back for another piece. The combination of that skin and fat was exactly what made it so good.

Roast duck

The duck was good, too. I enjoyed it, but the pork belly was on another level for me. If I were choosing my plate again, I’d build it around the pork.

Lo mein, bok choy and chicken wings

The lo mein was just okay. I wanted a little more seasoning or soy sauce. The plate also had big pieces of bok choy.

The wings had good flavor and chili flakes, but they weren’t as crispy or juicy as I wanted. I thought crisping them in an air fryer would help. They weren’t something I needed to order again.

How much was it?

  • Large lunch plate: $12.95 in my August 2024 video
  • Included: Two meats, a choice of rice or lo mein, and vegetables

The chicken wings were an additional order, and I honestly can’t remember how much they were. Check the current menu for prices.

What would I order again?

Pork belly, absolutely. I’d pair it with the sweet barbecue pork I’d enjoyed on an earlier visit. The duck was good, but the pork belly was the one I couldn’t stop thinking about, and I’d skip the wings next time.
