Sushi Haya Cypress: Juicy Shrimp, Tender Octopus & AYCE Sushi

By · My firsthand restaurant visit

Two viewers I met at Seafood City recommended Sushi Haya, so I visited the Cypress location to try it. The dining room was spacious, the staff were welcoming, and I quickly had more food in front of me than I expected.

From my video published June 15, 2025.

What I tried

Shrimp robata and baby octopus

The shrimp looked simple, but it was juicy and beautifully cooked. The texture almost reminded me of a good piece of lobster. I liked the sweet dipping sauce too, although I didn’t know its exact name.

The baby octopus was unusually soft and easy to eat. I enjoy some chew in octopus, but this was delicate without being tough. I specifically said I would order it again.

Mussels and sushi appetizers

I liked the sweet sauce with the grilled mussels. The yellowtail jalapeño appetizer also came with a sweeter sauce than the citrusy ponzu I expected. It wasn’t bad, just different from my usual preference.

The mango salmon was a nice pairing: sweet mango with the fish worked well. The peppered tuna wasn’t my favorite because I noticed a little fishiness. The beef tataki with onions and spicy ponzu was a combination I really enjoyed.

A surprise sushi boat

The manager arranged a special boat with sushi, sashimi and a roll for me. This was an extra gesture from the restaurant alongside my AYCE order, so I wouldn’t expect the same presentation with every visit.

The salmon and thicker-cut yellowtail sashimi were good for AYCE, and the portions were generous. The shaggy dog roll had plenty of sauce, so it barely needed any soy sauce. The tuna was just okay for my taste.

How much was it?

  • Adult lunch: $19.95 per person.
  • Adult dinner: $30.95 per person.

These were the menu prices during my visit. Check current prices and meal periods before going.

What would I order again?

The shrimp robata, baby octopus and salmon would be my first choices. I also enjoyed the beef tataki. Overall, I liked the food and appreciated the thoughtful service—even my water refills came with another lemon slice.
