Cane’s vs. Layne’s in Katy: Which Chicken Fingers Did I Prefer?

By · My firsthand restaurant visit

I’d been to Raising Cane’s several times, but Layne’s was new to me. We visited both in Katy on the same day to compare the chicken, sauce, toast, fries and sweet tea. My winner was Cane’s—with one clear win for Layne’s.

From my comparison video published September 1, 2025.

What we ordered

Raising Cane’s three-finger combo

We started small because another meal was coming right afterward. The chicken arrived hot, but on its own it was a little dry. Cane’s Sauce made it much better; that sauce is a big part of the appeal for me.

The toast was better than I usually get through the drive-through: crisp on one side, soft on the other and buttery. The fries were good dipped in sauce, and the sweet tea was definitely sweet.

Layne’s four-finger combo

We ordered two original and two spicy fingers. The original chicken had a similar inside texture to Cane’s, but thicker breading, and it wasn’t as hot and fresh on this visit. Layne’s Sauce reminded me of Cane’s Sauce with a much stronger black-pepper taste.

The spicy fingers were better than Layne’s original version for me. They had more kick, flavor and salt. The fries were crunchy outside and soft inside, while the sweet tea tasted watered down.

The toast that won

Layne’s toast was light, salty and buttery. I clearly preferred it to Cane’s toast, which felt thicker and doughier by comparison. This was Layne’s strongest point in my taste test.

How much was it?

  • Cane’s three-finger combo with fries and a drink: $10.38 during this visit.
  • Layne’s four-piece combo with fries, a drink and three additional dipping sauces on the side: $15.11 during this visit.

What would I get again?

My overall pick was Raising Cane’s. I preferred its chicken, sauce and sweet tea, and ultimately leaned toward its fries too. Layne’s won the toast, and I’d choose its spicy fingers over its original ones. This was my experience at these two locations on this particular day.
