Texas Roadhouse Review: My $22.99 Filet Dinner & Those Cinnamon-Butter Rolls
I went nearly twenty years without visiting Texas Roadhouse, then rediscovered it and wondered why I’d waited so long. A reasonably priced steak dinner is great, but those soft rolls with cinnamon butter are a big part of why I wanted to go back.

What I ordered
Dinner rolls and cinnamon butter
Soft, fluffy, sweet and so easy to keep eating. With the butter, they were the perfect pair. I had to stop myself so I’d have room for my actual dinner, lol!
Six-ounce filet
I ordered the six-ounce filet rare, and it came out the way I wanted it. I was impressed with how nicely it was cooked for the price. I tried Thomas’s au jus and liked it, but my favorite combination was still A1 and Tabasco.
Seasoned rice, Caesar salad and mushrooms
The rice surprised me in a good way: flavorful, not soggy and a generous serving. The Caesar salad was a standard Caesar, but I enjoyed it as a contrast to the steak, especially the cheese. I also got mushrooms and loved the thicker cuts.
Cactus Blossom
We shared the big fried-onion appetizer. It tasted good, but the portion was enormous alongside our dinners. For the two of us, it was more food than we needed, and leftovers came home.
How much was it?
- Six-ounce filet with two sides: $22.99 during my visit.
- My two sides were seasoned rice and Caesar salad.
- The Cactus Blossom was separate from that entrée price.

What would I order again?
The filet, seasoned rice and rolls would bring me back. The steak was cooked just how I like it, and I thought the value was excellent. I’d keep the size of the Cactus Blossom in mind before adding it to another full meal.
